Samuel was born with a malformed forearm, and he’s already showing early signs of elbow dysplasia in his other forearm and bilateral hip dysplasia. While he’s not in pain yet, regular massage now is helping to keep his muscles balanced, reduce unnecessary strain on his joints, and improve circulation.

If you're a dog person, you know the feeling — the way loving a dog just feels right. They’re our companions, our shadows, our joy on the darkest days. But every once in a while, if you’re really lucky, life gives you a heart dog 💜

A heart dog is different. It’s not just love — it’s connection. Deep, unspoken, and irreplaceable. They come into our lives and everything shifts. They seem to understand us without words. They show up when we need them most. And when they go… it leaves a space in us that never quite fills.

When I was 17, I had a German Shepherd named Rukkus. He was my heart dog. He stood beside me through some of the hardest times in my life. I honestly don't know who helped who more. I will love that dog for the rest of my life — and even 15 years later, the ache of losing him is still there.

But then… there’s Samuel. My long-term palliative foster. And somehow, this sweet soul is becoming something really special too. Maybe not the same as Rukkus — but maybe just as important. As much as Samuel needed me… I’m starting to realize I may have needed him too 💜

That’s the quiet magic of dogs — especially the ones that find their way into your heart. They steady us. They teach us about presence, loyalty, and healing. They remind us to laugh, to re-griund ourselves, and to breathe. They ask for little and give us everything.

Loving a dog — especially a heart dog — is one of the best things you can do for your mental and emotional health. They leave paw prints on our hearts, forever. Somehow, those prints make us stronger, softer, and better than we were before 💜
